There’s nothing worse when viewing your favourite sites than getting bombarded by nuisance popups. Quite often they have little relevance to what we are looking at and at times even display inappropriate content.
It is true that popups, if clicked, can at times lead us to malicious yet convincing looking websites that aim to capture our details and forward us to other sites.
There is a great little programme out there named ADBLOCK PLUS. This is an extension available for the most common browsers such as Internet Explorer, Chrome, Firefox and more. It is designed to stop all popups from appearing and creates a log of blocked ads so you know where they are coming from.
Do a quick google search for adblock plus and install the programme. In this instance I am installing it with chrome.
After the install button is clicked you will get a confirmation reminder to add this to your browser.
After this is accepted, the Adblock extension will be installed and will already be protecting your from popups. Take note of the small red icon added to your browser, click on this and it will display a mini control panel which can be used to view web statistics and block summaries.
So there we have it. All you needed to know to start preventing those nuisance pop-ups whilst you’re surfing the net.
